Brad’s Brainiacs – Mentor Group

As a practitioner and lecturer of naturopathy and nutrition, many of my students have asked when I will offer mentoring for newly graduated practitioners. The time is NOW! I have created Brad’s Brainiacs, a mentoring group designed to support novice naturopaths and nutritionists in their first few years of clinical practice. My students after graduating are often overwhelmed with clinical practice facing this challenging transition alone. A mentoring group is an excellent way to stay connected to other peers and advance your clinical knowledge.

About Brad’s Brainiacs

Brad’s Brainiacs is a 6 month online mentoring program to support newly graduated naturopaths and nutritionists transition into clinical practice. Utilising a case-based learning style, clinically relevant topics such as functional and integrative pathology analysis, advanced nutritional and herbal prescription are covered in-depth. Although a focus is placed on gastrointestinal disorders and chronic autoimmune conditions, other commonly seen conditions will be covered. This program also allows fellow Brainiacs the chance to bring along their own cases from clinical practice to be analysed by the group and Brad.

Topics Covered

Module 1 – Clinic setup
This month we will cover key details relevant to setting up your own clinic such as payment, fees, insurance, membership, intake form, supplement companies and pathology companies to join, useful tips and tricks for attracting clients to your clinic.

Module 2 – Functional pathology
This month we will cover functional pathology. A variety of functional tests will be discussed including DUTCH test, CDSA, heavy metals, methylation, intestinal permeability and epigenetic. You will be encouraged to email any functional pathology results from your patients to Brad for the group to discuss and interpret.

Module 3 – Integrative pathology
This month we will cover integrative pathology methods used to monitor and diagnose disease. This includes blood pathology, stool tests, PROM, diagnostic algorithms and naturopathic methods such as iridology.

Module 4 – Nutritional and Herbal Supplements
This month we will review some of the new and unknown supplements available to practitioners. A focus will be placed on expanding your supplement knowledge and advancing your dosage understanding.

Module 5 – Case analysis
This month Brainiacs will bring along a case they have seen in their clinical practice. You will be sent a template to describe the case and as a group we will analysis the case identifying a differential diagnosis, interoperation of pathology, suggestion for further pathology, dietary and supplement advice.

Facilitating critical thinking and robust understanding of our future healthcare practitioners is not only my passion; teaching integrative medicine is my purpose. My goal is to enable my students to describe complex topics and apply their knowledge throughout a diverse range of clinical and non-clinical situations. I hope students come away from my teaching with the same passion and curiosity as I have for integrative medicine.
